Bhatt emphasizes the value of vehicle communication with other vehicles and other road users as one of the finest methods to increase safety and decrease congestion. He is also concerned about the need to offer people seamless mobility and transit options, regardless of where they reside, and about minimizing the carbon footprint of transportation. Bhatt was chosen by three governors to manage the transportation department. As Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), he oversaw the organization’s launch of the Road X program, which is dedicated to implementing cutting-edge technological solutions like connected vehicles and collaborating with the private sector to influence the future of transportation.

Before joining the CDOT, Bhatt served as the cabinet secretary for the Delaware Department of Transportation. He was also a U.S. Department of Transportation official appointed by the President. Bhatt has held positions as chair of the National Operations Center of Excellence (NOCoE) Board of Directors and the I-95 Corridor Coalition Executive Committee. He has also served as a member of the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Global Agenda Council on the Future of Automotive and Personal Transport. Bhatt earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Western Kentucky University and received his diploma summa cum laude. In Washington, DC, he resides with his wife and two small girls.

There are many Indian Americans with key roles in the Biden Administration. Vice President Kamala Harris herself has Indian roots. In 2021, President Biden jokingly said that Indian-Americans are taking over the country.

Within 50 days of his presidency, at least 55 Indian-Americans were appointed by Biden to high-level leadership positions in his administration, including those at NASA and nearly every branch of the government. Shailen Bhatt is yet another instance of this trend.

Indian Americans

As of 2021, Indian Americans were the second largest immigrant group in the United States. This is more than 4 million people. It consists of a majority of immigrants and a growing number of Indian Americans born and raised in the United States. Many are successful professionally, educationally, and financially. Here are a few quick facts about the Indian American Community.

  • The level of civic and political participation varies greatly depending on citizenship.

Citizens who were born in the United States report the highest levels of civic and political engagement across nearly all metrics, followed by citizens who were born abroad and non-citizens in last place.

  • Indian Americans demonstrate very high rates of marriage within their community.

While eight out of ten respondents had a spouse or partner of Indian descent, Indian Americans born in the United States are four times more likely to have a spouse or partner of Indian descent.

  • Although religious practice differs, religion is an important part of Indian Americans’ life.

Religious practice is less pronounced, despite the fact that approximately three-quarters of Indian Americans claim that religion is essential in their life. 40% of respondents say they pray at least once a day, and 27% say they go to religious observance at least once a week.

  • Indian-origin persons make up a large portion of the population of Indian Americans’ social communities.

Indian Americans, particularly those who are first generation, frequently interact with other Indian Americans. Internally, Indian Americans’ social networks are more uniform in terms of religion than they are in terms of caste or Indian area (state) of origin.
