The Maldives Visa for Indians

The Maldives Visa on arrival for Tourists (Tourist Visa)

Tourists of all nationalities are offered a Maldives tourist visa on arrival to the Maldives. Pre-approval for the visa is not required for tourism.

Required Documents

  • A passport or a travel document with a machine readable zone (MRZ) with at least 1 year validity.
  • A pre-paid hotel booking/accommodation.
  • Sufficient funds to last for the intended period of stay in Maldives.
  • Confirmed onward/return tickets to home country or to country of residence (not applicable for valid resident permit holders).
  • Entry facilities to their onward destinations; for example, the visa.
  • Traveller Health Declaration (THD) must be filled in and submitted by all travelers traveling to and from Maldives, within 48 hours prior to their travel. The form has to be submitted electronically via IMUGA.
  • Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate, if applicable. Click here to check the Yellow Fever endemic countries.
  • COVID-19 negative PCR test result, attached while completing Traveler Health Declaration form. The sample for PCR test has to be taken 96 hours prior to departure to Maldives, counting from the first port of embarkation en-route to the Maldives.

Duration

The visa upon arrival is granted for a maximum number of 30 days (unless there is some other agreement between the countries). How many days are given (less than or equal to 30) is upto the discretion of the Maldives Immigration.

Restrictions

Upon arrival as a tourist , the visitor is not permitted to engage in any form of business, occupation, profession or paid employment while in the Maldives.

Visitors such as social visitors, friends, family visitors or media and business visitors, who are not considered as tourists, are advised to declare sponsorship before their arrival (if applicable).

All travelers are also reminded that it is a punishable offense to overstay in Maldives beyond the number of days that have been given.

Business Visa

The Business Visa is a temporary multiple-entry visa issued to foreign nationals intending to stay in the Maldives for business purposes.

In accordance with the new Business Visa Regulation published on 25th August 2021, applications for the Business Visa must be submitted to the Ministry of Economic Development via the Ministry’s Business Portal.

Requirements

  • The business visa application form filled completely with all the details of the applicant.
  • A document that states the registration of the concerned company or organization.
  • The copy of the bio data page of the passport.
  • A certificate of qualification from the concerned organization which mentions the purpose of the applicant’s visit, his or her experience in the field of work and duration and the place of stay in the country.
  • A document that acts as proof of health insurance of the applicant.
  • Family/friend visit visa: If a person is travelling to Maldives to visit a family or a friend then he or she can apply for family/friend visit visa. The documents required for getting an approval for family/friend visit visa are:
  • A passport that does not expire for at least 6 months from the date of travel.
  • Two photographs of the applicant may be required.
  • Proof of accommodation in the country.
  • Air tickets to fly out of Maldives.
  • A letter of invitation from the concerned family member or friend in Maldives.
  • The visitor should have enough foreign exchange for the duration of his or her stay.

Work Visa

The Maldives work visa for Indians is applied for through the following procedure. The employers and recruitment agencies apply for the service through the Xpat Online System.
Through this system, the visa will be processed within 48 hours of submission. Once the application is processed, applicants can request for an online appointment to submit their passport for the visa. The visa process will take 3 working days and the applicant will be notified when the passport is ready for collection. Another online appointment has to be set up in order for passport collection.

Entry Requirements for a Work Visa

  • A machine readable (MRZ) passport bio-data page copy of the applicant (passport with at least 1 Year validity).
  • A valid work permit not exceeding 90 days from the date of arrival.
  • The Traveler should provide the same passport mentioned in the work permit.
  • Traveler Health Declaration, submitted 24 hours prior to departure from the first port of embarkation. The traveler can submit the form electronically via IMUGA.
  • Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate, if applicable.

Applying for a Work Visa

The following documents are required to apply for a work visa. The employer or a representative of the employer will submit the application for the visa.

  • Passport of the employee
  • Copy of the Work Permit
  • Passport size photo (Photo shall comply with Maldives Immigration passport photo standard and must be a recent photo)
  • Medical health screening report of the employee issued from a Hospital/Clinic authorized by the relevant government authority
  • Work Visa Application Submission Receipt (IM29)

Marriage Visa

A foreigner traveling to Maldives to marry a Maldivian, or a foreigner who is married to a Maldivian and plans to travel to the Maldives to register their marriage in the Maldives, must be sponsored before arrival. The Sponsorship Declaration must be submitted online via IMUGA, the digital platform for immigration services.

After arrival, the foreigner must complete the legal marriage process, and apply for a marriage visa within a given period of 30 days. If the foreigner is already residing in the Maldives, their visa needs to be transferred to a marriage visa, once the legal procedure of the marriage is completed.

Applying for a Marriage Visa

The following documents are required to apply for a Marriage Visa.

  • Application for Permit Extension Form (IM23)
  • Passport of the applicant
  • Signature and seal from the Family Court in the application form
  • Original and copy of Marriage Certificate
  • Identity Card copy of the Maldivian national
  • Passport size photo (Photo shall comply with Maldives Immigration passport photo standard and must be a recent photo)
  • Visa card fee, MVR50
  • Medical health screening report of the employee issued from a Hospital/Clinic authorized by the relevant government authority

Marriage Visa applications must be submitted online via IMUGA. Once the application is processed, the submitter will be notified via the Portal, and will be given an appointment to submit their passport for the visa.

Dependant Visa

The following documents are required to apply for a Dependent Visa.

  • Application for Permit Extension From (IM23)
  • A passport or Travel Document with Machine Readable Zone (MRZ) with at least 6 months validity
  • Passport size photo (Photo shall comply with Maldives Immigration passport photo standard and must be a recent photo)
  • Dependent Visa card fee, MVR50
  • Dependent Visa fee, MVR750 for each 3 months
  • Employment Approval copy or Visa Card copy of the foreigner holding the Work Visa
  • Proof of the dependent status (marriage certificate or birth certificate)
  • Letter from the respective embassy explaining the living situation, if it is the mother or the father of the employment visa holder
  • Medical health screening report of the employee issued from a Hospital/Clinic authorized by the relevant government authority
  • Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate, if applicable
  • Dependent Visa applications shall be submitted via IMUGA.
