The state government is exploring the possibility of restarting the Mysore Paper Mills (MPM) in Bhadravathi through private participation. As part of these steps, MPM has engaged the services of Infrastructure Development Corporation (Karnataka) Ltd (iDeCK), a Bengaluru-based consultancy, as its transaction advisor.

In the wake of production coming to a halt at Mysore Paper Mills (MPM), a public sector undertaking in Bhadravati, environmentalists here have demanded that the Forest Department take back the forest land that it had sanctioned to the firm to develop captive plantations.  The government has leased out 30,000 hectares of forest land to MPM to raise acacia, eucalyptus and other varieties of trees that would provide pulp and other raw material for the factory to produce paper.

With the State government passing an order to completely halt operations at Mysore Paper Mills (MPM), a public sector undertaking at Bhadravati, hopes about the revival of the firm have also faded away.  Citing losses, production was stopped in November 2015. The government in August 2017 allocated ₹345 crore towards the voluntary retirement scheme and severance package for the workers. Of the 2,409 workers, 2,031 opted for VRS. Meanwhile, some of them retired in the natural course.
