Chennai Super Kings is a cricket team based out of Chennai (Tamil Nadu) in the Indian Premier League(IPL). They are one of the most worthy franchise of the IPL with an estimated value of 732 crores in the year 2019. It was founded in 2008 when the IPL tournament started in India. It’s the most successful cricket team of the IPL in terms of winning the trophy. They contain the records of most occurrences in the IPL playoffs (ten) and have played the playoffs in each season they have starred in the league, which makes them the only team to do so. Additionally, they also qualified to eight finals out of the ten leagues they took part in, which made them one of the most flourishing franchises in the IPL.

OVERVIEW

IPL witnessed a major milestone on September 4th, 2017, with Star TV winning the media rights for (2018-2022) five-year period, for staggering Rs 16,347.50 crore. By virtue of these rights, the revenue share of franchises over the next 5-year period will be 50% of the above amount after deducting the production expenses incurred during the season. The league also signed a major title deal with VIVO for Rs, 2199 crore for the same period. ( 2018-2022). A combination of sponsorship and media rights ensures, your franchise will receive over Rs 1000 crore in the form of central revenue over the next five years from the BCCI-IPL. However, the Franchisees have to share 20% of the income with BCCI.

INSIGHTS

Due to the spread of COVID 19 pandemic and in order to control and contain the pandemic, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) conducted the IPL season XIII at UAE during September - November 2020.

In respect of Season XIV, the same commenced on 9th April 2021 and the matches were held till 2nd May 2021. BCCI, on account of spread of COVID 19 pandemic, decided to suspend the remaining matches and the same are rescheduled to be held at UAE from 19th September 2021.

The drop in total revenue and profit for the year 2020-21 compared with the previous year was mainly due to reduced revenues on account of COVID 19 pandemic.

In order to conserve resources, the Company has not declared any Dividend for the year ended 31st March 2021. The Company has not transferred any amount to the reserves for the year ended 31st March 2021.
